The Navigator MN1330 KV40 from T-MOTOR, a Chinese maker, is the largest heavy-lift motor of the Navigator series: a 24S outrunner with protection rating IP45 for logistics, firefighting and crop-protection drones. The maker quotes up to 75 kg of maximum thrust per arm.

The motor weighs 2,750 g and measures 150 x 65 mm. At KV 40 and 92.03 V that works out to about 3,700 rpm at no load. The maximum thrust of 75,415 g is a test-stand value with the NS52x20 propeller at 177.03 A and 92.03 V; that is about 16.3 kW and a good 27 times the motor's own weight. The power figure of 3,400 W applies for 180 s, and the peak current of 177 A carries no time span of its own. For ESC, wiring and battery the current of the test point counts, not the lower power figure.

At 75 kg of thrust per arm, the thrust of a multi-arm system adds up to several hundred kilograms. Such aircraft sit far above 25 kg take-off mass and belong in the specific category, where the operational authorisation rests on a risk assessment. IP45 protects against solid objects from 1 mm and against water jets. Spraying from the air is additionally subject in the EU to its own authorisation rules.

The NS52x20 propeller measures 52 inches, which is over 1.3 m; balance and a secure hub fixing are decisive for the bearings. The ESC must support 24S and carry the current of the test point with headroom. Check the winding insulation under sustained heat, the bearing run, the seals and the rotor bell after hard landings.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
