Scania P — the low cab for distribution and construction
P is Scania's lowest cab step. The entry sits lower than on G, R and S, and so does the roof. That is exactly its purpose: anyone climbing in and out twenty times a day saves a step at every stop. Urban distribution, municipal bodies, construction vehicles — that is where the P works.

The second property is clearance height. Low gateways, underground car parks, hall entrances and tight construction sites impose a limit that a long-haul cab exceeds. Anyone who regularly has to pass under structures chooses the P not to save money but because the bigger house does not fit.
As with every Scania model, the number after the letter is engine output in horsepower, not weight. A P 280 has 280 hp. Gross vehicle weight does not appear in the designation — it follows from the axle configuration and body and must be read from the papers.
For used purchases the cab variant is worth a look. The P comes with different roof heights and as a short, day or sleeper cab. Two vehicles, both P 280, can differ markedly inside. Anyone needing the vehicle for long days should check cab length, not just the designation.
One closing point of orientation: P and G overlap in application more than the letters suggest. The G offers more headroom across a similar field of work. Anyone torn between them is usually deciding entry height against interior space — not power.
