The DRS-M400 from Drone Rescue Systems (Austria) is a reusable parachute kit for the DJI Matrice 400, a multicopter of the medium class. It is connected through the DJI Payload SDK (PSDK) and the E-Port V2, which makes it a ready-made solution for this one model.

The manufacturer gives two operating points: a sink rate of 4.0 m/s at 10.5 kg with 84 J of impact energy, and 5.05 m/s at 16.75 kg with 214 J. The rated value of 5.05 m/s applies to the higher mass. The opening takes place within 25 m, a distance and not a guaranteed minimum deployment altitude. The system weighs 590 g and measures 170 x 100 mm.

As evidence the manufacturer names EASA MoC Light-UAS.2511 and 2512. The test to ASTM F3322-22 is shown as eligible for testing, which is not an issued evidence of compliance. Anyone flying over people or in certain scenarios of the Specific category should be able to show the evidence for their own load, because the sink rate depends on mass. The 590 g count towards take-off weight.

After a deployment, canopy and lines are checked for tears, chafing and moisture; the kit is repacked as the manufacturer specifies. The take-off weight of the Matrice 400 with payload should lie within the two stated operating points, since beyond them sink rate and impact energy keep rising. The function of the PSDK link is checked on the ground before use, and again after firmware changes to the aircraft.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
