The DRS-25R V2 from Drone Rescue Systems (Austria) is a universal, reusable parachute recovery system for heavy multicopters of 15 to 25 kg. It throws out the canopy with an electrically triggered catapult, with no pyrotechnics and no CO2, and is controlled through MAVLink, PWM or a customer-specific interface.
The parachute is rated up to 25 kg take-off weight. The sink rate is about 3.0 m/s at 15 kg and 4.5 m/s at 25 kg; the impact energy rises in the process from about 68 to 253 J, because it grows with the mass and with the square of the sink rate. The rated value of 4.5 m/s applies to full load. According to the manufacturer the opening takes place within 35 to 45 m, a distance value and not a guaranteed minimum deployment altitude; larger canopies need more distance to open. The system weighs 650 g and measures 280 x 100 mm.
At 25 kg the design limit sits at the weight limit of the Open category and of the EU classes C0 to C6. The manufacturer calls the system eligible for testing to ASTM F3322 and EASA MoC Light-UAS.2511 and 2512, a testing status without issued evidence. For flights over people or in certain scenarios of the Specific category, the evidence is what counts. The 650 g count towards take-off weight, and anyone flying close to the 25 kg limit has to include them.
The electric catapult uses up no propellant charge; the kit can be used again after a deployment. Then fabric and lines are checked for tears, chafing and dirt and repacked as the manufacturer specifies. The real take-off weight including payload decides the selection. The MAVLink or PWM link is tested on the ground before the aircraft flies with it.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
