The KDE Direct KDE7215XF-135 is a heavy-lift motor (24N22P) with 0.2 mm laminations for systems from 6S LiPo to 14S LiHV with 27.5-inch two-blade propellers. KDE Direct is a US manufacturer of drone drives. The stator class 7215 stands for 72 mm diameter and 15 mm height; the motor weighs 555 g (640 g with cables and connectors) and measures 80.8 x 49.5 mm.

At 135 KV the motor turns roughly 7,000 rpm unloaded on 14S at 51.8 V nominal. The thin stator laminations reduce eddy-current losses and help efficiency. For 180 s KDE quotes 2,915 W at 45 A, with at least 5 mph (about 8 km/h) of airflow over the winding. The recommended propeller is the KDE CF275-DP at 27.5x8.9 inches. The voltage runs from 22.2 V (6S LiPo) to 60.9 V (14S LiHV), and 6 to 14S is permitted.

KDE tested the motor with two- and three-blade propellers of 24.5, 27.5 and 30.5 inches from 6S to 14S. The maximum thrust of 13,445 g comes from the KDE test stand at 3,500 ft altitude: 58.8 V (14S), two-blade propeller 24.5x8.1 (CF245-DP), 61.3 A and 3,607 W. The test current is about 36 % above the 45 A of the 180 s limit, so the thrust is a short-term value. The 14,745 g for sea level is an extrapolation by KDE. At the maximum point this is 3.73 g of thrust per watt, and clearly more in a hover at part load. The test-stand result is not directly comparable with measurements from other makers.

With a voltage range that more than doubles from 6S to 14S, the controller (ESC) belongs to the selection as much as the propeller does: it must carry the chosen cell count. Wear points are the bearings, the shaft and the magnet seat; with 27.5-inch propellers good balancing matters. Anyone carrying a 14S pack has exceeded the 160 Wh limit for passenger aircraft at about 3 Ah.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
