The KDE Direct KDE4215XF-465 is a multicopter motor (24N22P) of the sUAS class, that is small unmanned systems, for 4S to 6S systems. KDE Direct is a US manufacturer of drone drives. The stator class 4215 stands for 42 mm diameter and 15 mm height; the motor weighs 195 g (250 g with cables) and measures 48.2 x 36 mm.

At 465 KV the motor turns roughly 10,300 rpm unloaded on 6S (22.2 V nominal). For 180 s KDE quotes 1,375 W at 62 A, which corresponds to about 22 V and so to 6S; the airflow over the winding must be at least 5 mph (about 8 km/h) for that. The recommended propeller is the KDE 15.5x5.3 three-blade. Permitted cell counts are 4 to 6S.

KDE measures the maximum thrust of 5,608 g on the test stand at 3,500 ft altitude (about 1,070 m) at 20 °C, with the KDE-UAS125UVC controller at 100 % throttle, on 6S with the 18.5x6.3 two-blade propeller (KDE-CF185-DP), at 62.6 A and 1,576 W. The 1,576 W is about 15 % above the 180 s power of 1,375 W, so the thrust figure is a short-term maximum. KDE extrapolates 6,150 g to sea level, which is the maker's estimate; the statement that the motor delivers over 6 kg of thrust on 6S with 18-inch propellers fits this extrapolation only, not the measured figure. At 3.56 g per watt at the maximum point, efficiency in a hover at part load is usually much higher.

The measuring point at 1,576 W shows how much peak the motor tolerates briefly, but it is not continuous running: if the drive runs constantly at 62 A and above, winding insulation and bearings age faster. The checks are airflow at the motor, roughness of the bearings, shaft wobble and rub marks on the bell. The design follows the take-off weight of the whole drone, and the EU class depends on that weight, not on the motor.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
