The KDE Direct KDE5215XF-330 is a multicopter motor (24N22P) for mid-size 4S to 8S systems. KDE Direct is a US manufacturer of drone drives. The stator class 5215 stands for 52 mm diameter and 15 mm height; the motor weighs 305 g (360 g with cables) and measures 60 x 41 mm. It handles three-blade propellers up to 21.5 inches, and up to 18.5 inches on 8S.
At 330 KV the motor turns roughly 9,800 rpm unloaded on 8S (29.6 V nominal) and roughly 4,900 on 4S. For 180 s KDE quotes 1,835 W at 62 A; together they give 29.6 V, the nominal voltage of 8S. These limits hold only with at least 5 mph (about 8 km/h) of airflow over the winding. The recommended propeller is the KDE 18.5x6.3 three-blade, and 4 to 8S is permitted.
KDE measured the maximum thrust of 8,674 g on the test stand at 3,500 ft altitude, at 33.6 V (8S fully charged) with the 18.5x6.3 three-blade propeller, 75.8 A and 2,546 W. That measuring point lies about 39 % above the 180 s power: the thrust is a short-term maximum. The extrapolation to sea level (9,513 g) is an estimate by KDE, and because the stand is at 3,500 ft, the figures are not directly comparable with values from other test stands. At the maximum point this works out at 3.41 g of thrust per watt, and in a hover at part load the figure is clearly higher. For the battery, transport counts: an 8S pack reaches the 160 Wh limit for passenger aircraft at about 5.4 Ah.
On an 18.5-inch three-blade propeller even slight imbalance loads the bearings. The checks are bearing play and roughness, shaft wobble and the seating of the magnets in the bell. The winding ages when the motor is enclosed in the frame and the required airflow is missing. For a replacement, hole pattern, shaft diameter and the same 5215 stator class count.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
