The KDE Direct KDE6213XF-185 is a heavy-lift motor (24N28P) for multicopters on 6S to 12S with 24.5-inch propellers. KDE Direct is a US manufacturer of drone drives; according to KDE this model is developed in the USA and made in China. The stator class 6213 stands for 62 mm diameter and 13 mm height; the motor weighs 360 g (415 g with cables) and measures 70 x 42 mm.

At 185 KV it turns roughly 8,200 rpm unloaded on 12S (44.4 V nominal). For 180 s KDE quotes 2,755 W and 50 A, with at least 5 mph (about 8 km/h) of airflow over the winding. Both limits at once cannot be reached on 12S: 50 A at the 50.4 V of a fully charged 12S pack gives 2,520 W, so the current limit bites before the power limit. The recommended propeller is the KDE CF245-DP at 24.5x8.1 inches, and 6 to 12S is permitted.

The maximum thrust of 9,913 g was measured on the KDE test stand at 3,500 ft altitude at 20 °C, on 12S (50.4 V) with a 21.5x7.3 three-blade propeller, at 54.1 A and 2,727 W. The test current lies above the 180 s current of 50 A: the thrust is a short-term value. The sea-level figure of 10,871 g is an extrapolation by KDE. At the maximum point this works out at 3.64 g of thrust per watt; in a hover at part load the figure is usually much higher. The 180 s time basis is the longest makers use and so the closest to continuous running. A 12S pack reaches the 160 Wh limit for passenger aircraft at about 3.6 Ah.

When buying second-hand, three points decide: the bearings (roughness, axial play), the shaft (wobble after a hard landing) and the state of the winding, whose varnish darkens under overload. With 24.5-inch propellers, bending loads arise on the shaft if the propeller is not balanced. The EU class depends on the take-off weight of the whole drone, not on the motor; from 25 kg the open category ends.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
