The Manitou MI 35 G US is the gas variant of the class 35 forklift in the MI series. G stands for gas, US for the North American version. The load-capacity class matches that of the diesel version with the same figure, and the drive here is a combustion engine fed from a liquid gas cylinder.
The advantage over diesel lies in lower emissions and quieter running, which ease use in halls with foot traffic, in food retail and in loading yards bordering residential areas. Compared with an electric truck the gas drive has the advantage that no charging is needed and a cylinder swap takes only minutes, which allows multi-shift work without a break.
The vehicle carries its load on a mast, like the other types of the series. Buyers of used units check the condition of the vaporiser, the tightness of the gas lines, the mast travel and the brakes. Especially at the higher class, the fork tines should be inspected regularly for deformation and cracks.
Manitou MI – industrial forklifts with diesel and gas power
The MI range is Manitou's line of industrial counterbalance forklifts. The maker from Ancenis, France is best known for rough-terrain forklifts and telehandlers; the MI series addresses the conventional forklift market. According to trade press, the range includes diesel and LPG models with capacities from 1,500 to 3,500 kg, with higher-capacity units reaching 6,000 and 7,000 kg. They use Powershuttle transmissions, hydrostatic steering and masts similar to those on Manitou's rough-terrain forklifts.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
