The Workswell WIRIS Enterprise G is a radiometric thermal camera from the Czech Republic that comes ready-mounted on a three-axis gimbal. It is meant for heavy multicopters and joins a thermal image, a 16 MP RGB camera and a laser rangefinder in one unit for inspection, measurement and documentation.

The thermal image has 640 × 480 pixels. The camera is radiometric: every pixel carries a temperature value, not just a brightness, which permits measurement reports. The temperature range reaches 600 °C at an accuracy of ±2 °C or 2 %. The 16 MP RGB camera offers a stabilised optical zoom of 30x, which lets thermal images be assigned to components. The rangefinder measures up to 1,500 m. The accuracy of a temperature measurement additionally depends on emissivity, distance and atmosphere.

Images of people and property fall under data-protection law, and the operator must be registered. Thermal cameras with a frame rate above 9 Hz fall under the EU Dual-Use Regulation (2021/821), and an export can require a licence. Gimbal and camera count towards the take-off mass of the aircraft.

Compared with the version without gimbal, the G version spares the matching of camera and separate gimbal; anyone who wants to mount the camera on their own gimbal chooses the base version. Resolution, sensitivity and measuring range determine what can be measured, not the zoom of the RGB camera. Wear points are the gimbal motors, the zoom mechanics and the rangefinder optics; front windows are cleaned only with suitable agents, and the calibration is checked regularly.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
