The Workswell WIRIS Enterprise is a radiometric multi-sensor thermal camera from the Czech Republic for mid-sized multicopters. It joins a thermal image with a 16 MP daylight camera and a rangefinder and is meant for inspection, measurement and documentation. With the Pixy WE, Gremsy offers a gimbal designed specifically for it.

The detector is uncooled; the type is not named. The camera is radiometric: every pixel carries a temperature value, and the measurement is calibrated to an accuracy of ±2 % or ±2 °C up to a measuring range of 1,500 °C. The image output of 1266 × 1010 pixels is an image computed up by super-resolution and not the resolution of the detector itself. The daylight camera has 16 MP and an optical zoom of 30x in the visible channel; the rangefinder reaches 1,500 m.

Thermal cameras with a frame rate above 9 Hz fall under the EU Dual-Use Regulation; an export can require a licence. Images of people and property fall under data-protection law, and the operator must be registered. The device counts towards the take-off mass of the aircraft.

Output resolution and detector resolution are different quantities: anyone comparing cameras compares the detector's pixels, not the computed image size. For measurement reports with temperature values, the radiometric version is to be chosen, as devices without a measuring function exist too. Wear points are zoom mechanics, rangefinder optics and the gimbal; front windows are cleaned only with suitable agents, and the calibration is checked regularly.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
