The Molicel INR-21700-P45B is a high-power round cell in the 21700 format from Molicel (E-One Moli Energy Corp.), a maker based in Taipei, Taiwan. It is intended for small FPV drones and widely used in lithium-ion batteries for long-range FPV; among other things it sits in finished 6S1P packs of 4,500 mAh.
The cell stores 4,500 mAh at 3.6 V nominal voltage, which is 16.2 Wh. The current is 45 A, which is 10C, calculated from current and capacity; at that current it is empty after six minutes. The weight of 70 g is a maximum, and the 242 Wh/kg comes from the manufacturer and cannot be recalculated from the maximum weight. The energy density is a figure for the single cell, not for the finished pack.
There is a reason the finished packs have 4,500 mAh: six cells in series (6S1P) come to 97.2 Wh and so stay just below the IATA limit of 100 Wh for spare batteries in passenger flights. Above that, up to 160 Wh, the airline must agree to carriage. Lithium cells must meet the tests of UN 38.3 for transport and are packed protected against short circuit.
When choosing, check whether the pack current stays below 45 A. In a 6S1P pack every cell carries the full current; more reserve needs parallel cells, which lift weight and energy above the 100 Wh limit. The cell ages with cycles, heat and deep discharge; access to the Molicel data sheet runs through a contact form. Molicel cells are often counterfeited, so buy only from reputable dealers.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
