Ford 10 series (1981–1991) – 2610 to 8210 from Basildon: the last pure Ford generation, Force II, the number as size class plus 10, (A) for four-wheel drive, 30 to 81 kW
The 10 series was Ford's last tractor programme before the merger with New Holland in 1991 and the range that still shapes the Basildon plant in Essex today: in 1981 it replaced the 600 models, and in 1985 Force II brought the revised generation with the Super Q cab, regarded as one of the quietest of its time. The type logic continues the Ford tradition: the first digit gives the size class as since 1965 – 2 for the small tractor, 3 and 4 for the mid-range, 5 to 8 for the large – the 10 the series; 2610 and 2910 are the three-cylinders, 4610 and 4110 the four-cylinder standard tractors, 6610 to 7710 the six-cylinders, 7810 the 100 hp non-turbo six that became a classic, 8210 the top. The 10s were Britain's best-selling tractors of the 1980s and common across Europe; the 7810 with the 6.6-litre naturally aspirated engine is still regarded as one of the most popular used tractors because engine and transmission are considered almost indestructible.
