The YellowScan Navigator is a bathymetric UAV LiDAR system from France with a green laser. It maps shallow water beds down to about twice the Secchi depth and is designed for heavy multicopters.
The range is 120 m. As point rate, YellowScan states 20,000 shots per second, that is, the number of laser pulses and not of points; up to 10 echoes per shot capture water surface, water column and bed. The field of view is 40°. Accuracy is 3 cm. The maximum water depth is quoted as 2 Secchi depths; the Secchi depth is the depth at which a white disc in the water is no longer visible, a measure of clarity. A GNSS-inertial unit (SBG Quanta Micro) is integrated. The system weighs 3,700 g without battery.
With a green laser, a safety distance applies, which the manufacturer states (nominal ocular hazard distance); laser class and operating instructions are to be observed. The payload alone, at 3.7 kg without battery, lies just below the limit of EU class C2 (4 kg); the aircraft therefore falls into C3 or C4 (up to 25 kg) or into the specific category. Surveys of waterbodies often touch protected areas; flights are frequently in the specific category.
How deep the laser gets depends on the turbidity of the water, not on the device: in clear water the beam reaches deeper, in turbid water it ends sooner. Anyone planning a waterbody checks the clarity before the flight. The weight applies without battery, and the battery comes on top. Wear points are the scanner window, the optics and the connectors; water and salt call for thorough cleaning after use.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
