YellowScan Mapper+
Series: YellowScan LiDAR scanners for drones

The YellowScan Mapper+ is a turnkey UAV LiDAR system from France for mid-sized multicopters. It is based on the Livox Avia scanner and, with the Applanix APX-15 UAV GNSS-inertial unit, forms a system for georeferenced point clouds.
The range is 230 m. As point rate, YellowScan states 240,000 shots per second, that is, the number of laser pulses and not of points; up to 3 echoes per pulse capture ground and vegetation at once, so up to three times as many points result. The field of view is 70.4 × 4.5° in line scan. Accuracy is 4 cm, precision 3.5 cm. The system weighs 1,100 g without battery. IMU and GNSS are integrated.
The weight of 1.1 kg without battery counts towards the take-off mass of the aircraft, whose EU class limits are 900 g (C1), 4 kg (C2) and 25 kg (C3 and C4). The laser scanner is a laser device, and the laser class given by the manufacturer is to be observed. Point clouds of built-up areas fall under data-protection law, and the operator must be registered. Surveys of larger areas are often flown in the specific category.
With a complete system, it counts that scanner, positioning system and processing software are matched to each other; that saves your own calibration. Anyone comparing systems compares shots with shots and points with points, because the figures are not alike. The weight applies without battery, and the battery comes on top. Wear points are the scanner window, the connectors and the damping; after knocks the calibration is checked.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
