The KDE Direct KDEXF-UAS35 (35A+) is an optically isolated single-motor ESC from the US maker KDE Direct for mid-class multicopters on 2S to 8S. It drives one motor; the board measures 25 × 48 mm (width × length, without height) and weighs 24 g without leads, 50 g with leads.

The continuous current is 35 A for 180 s and the peak current 60 A for 5 s; the continuous figure is therefore a three-minute value. The limit of 8S applies to LiHV cells with a charge end voltage of 4.35 V, which is 34.8 V; with ordinary lithium-polymer cells at 4.2 V it is 33.6 V. Control is by PWM, and the controller adapts to refresh rates from 50 to 600 Hz (adaptive PWM), so it accepts slow and fast PWM signals alike. The speed limit of 360,000 rpm refers to a 2-pole motor.

Frame and law: according to the manufacturer's page the controller is not NDAA-compliant; for procurement subject to the US National Defense Authorization Act that is an exclusion criterion. On 8S an ampere-hour of battery is about 30 Wh, and the IATA limits of 100 and 160 Wh lie at about 3.3 and 5.3 Ah. Depending on the take-off mass of the aircraft, EU classes C1 to C3 apply.

For selection the total weight counts: the leads weigh 26 g, more than the board itself. The motor's continuous current plus reserve stays below 35 A. On a board of this size heat leaves only through small surfaces; heat discolouration, softened lead insulation and cracked solder joints after vibration are the usual signs of wear.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
