The KDE Direct KDE-UAS55HVC (55A+HV) is a high-voltage single-motor ESC from the US maker KDE Direct for mid-class multicopters on 3S to 12S. It drives one motor, is optically isolated and has protection rating IP56. The board measures 35 × 72 mm (width × length, without height).

The continuous current is 55 A for 180 s at a minimum airflow of 8 km/h, the peak current 95 A for 5 s. The airflow is part of the test condition: in a calm hover cooling is weaker, so the continuous current should be set more cautiously there. The weight of 64 g is without leads, with leads it is 96 g. The throttle signal arrives by PWM. Optical isolation means an optocoupler carries the signal between flight controller and ESC without a common ground connection; ground loops and noise from the power side reach the flight controller less easily. IP56 means protection against dust and against powerful water jets.

Frame and law: depending on take-off mass, a multicopter with this controller falls into EU class C2 or C3; the duties, for example Remote ID for C1 to C3, concern the aircraft. On 12S an ampere-hour of battery is 44.4 Wh, on 3S only 11.1 Wh.

For selection: the speed limit of 360,000 rpm applies to a 2-pole motor and drops accordingly with more poles. Check the seals and housing (IP56), lead roots and solder joints; heat damage shows as discoloured components.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
