The KDE Direct KDE-UAS95HVC (95A+HV) is a high-voltage single-motor ESC from the US maker KDE Direct for heavy multicopters on 3S to 12S. It drives one motor, is optically isolated and has protection rating IP56. The board measures 37 × 82 mm (width × length, without height).

The continuous current is 95 A for 180 s and the peak current 165 A for 5 s; anyone flying under load for longer than three minutes sets the continuous current lower. The weight of 78 g is without leads, with leads it is 114 g, a difference of 36 g that belongs in the weight budget. The throttle signal arrives by PWM. According to the manufacturer's page the controller is not NDAA-compliant; for procurement subject to the US National Defense Authorization Act that is an exclusion criterion. The speed limit of 360,000 rpm refers to a 2-pole motor.

Frame and law: on 12S an ampere-hour of battery equals 44.4 Wh. The IATA limits of 100 and 160 Wh lie at about 2.3 and 3.6 Ah; larger packs travel only as dangerous goods. The aircraft, not the ESC, is classified; heavy multicopters often move around 25 kg take-off mass, where the open category ends.

For selection and wear: IP56 protects against dust and water jets, not against permanent immersion. After use in rain check seals and housing, plus capacitors and power connectors. Heat discolouration and softened lead insulation are warning signs of overload.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
