White Other models

29 models in this series

White – other models: the collective page of the American maker's half-track and scout-car vehicles, M3, M3A1 and M16 from the Second World War, 4.8 to 14 litres, six- and eight-cylinder engines

This page gathers vehicles of the White Motor Company that the register could not assign to a named range – mainly the half-tracks and armoured scout cars White built for the US Army during the Second World War. White, founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1900, developed the M3 Scout Car, a lightly armoured reconnaissance vehicle with a wheel-and-track combination, and, together with other makers, the M3 half-track personnel carrier and its anti-aircraft variant M16 with a quadruple machine-gun mount. The model list shows the M3A1 variant (with a ring mount for a machine gun), the M2A1 as a shorter version, and post-war trucks of the WC range and the 3000 and 3014 types, with which White continued after the war as a heavy-truck maker.

The register lists here 29 versions with displacements from 4,800 to 14,000 cm³ from six- and eight-cylinders, unladen weights from 3,240 to 9,637 kg, gross weights from 4,485 to 20,000 kg, lengths from 4,900 to 8,870 mm and widths from 1,970 to 2,510 mm.

The M3 Scout Car and M3 half-track were among the most widely built American military vehicles of the Second World War and continued in service with many armies worldwide after 1945; White itself was taken over by Volvo in 1980, and the brand lived on as WhiteGMC into the 1990s.

On these historic military vehicles, the condition and completeness of tracks and running gear, rust on the pressed-steel body, the originality of the engine and weapon mounts, and the function of the mechanical brakes count; parts run through specialist military-vehicle restorers.
