Scania DC13

Scania carries proven truck technology over into stationary and marine applications; the revised "Next Generation DC13" was named "Diesel of the Year" in 2023. Compared with the industrial version, the marine variant gets a more robust aluminum cover in place of the usual plastic cover.

The DC13 is used in ferries, pilot boats, pusher boats, offshore-wind crew transfer vessels and various workboats, as well as construction and mining equipment where high torque at low rpm is required.

On a used industrial or marine unit, check the wet cylinder-liner design: liners can be replaced, but require correct sealing on reinstallation, and a documented history of maintaining the individual four-valve cylinder heads is a precondition for the serviceability Scania advertises for this engine.
