International covers the entire North American spectrum from medium-duty distribution trucks to heavy long-haul and construction vehicles, while also being one of the larger suppliers of school bus chassis; competitors are Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt and Mack, while the bus segment competes mainly with Blue Bird and Thomas Built Buses.

When buying used, check the turbocharger and injection system on the diesel engines (including the DT-466 family), frame corrosion and air suspension condition on the chassis, safety equipment such as doors and warning lights on bus bodies, and battery condition and charge cycles on the electric versions; parts run through the Navistar International dealer network.
