Autocar – other models: refuse and vocational truck chassis from the oldest surviving US truck maker, based in Indiana, six-cylinder engines from 6.3 to 14.2 litres, diesel, natural gas and electric drive
Autocar was founded in 1897 and is considered the oldest still-producing US truck manufacturer; after spells in Pennsylvania and Michigan, the company now builds its heavy chassis in Indiana. The brand specialises in vocational trucks for refuse collection, construction and municipal work; the Xpeditor and Xspotter are cab-over chassis for waste collection and yard spotting, the Xpert adds a conventional-cab model, and the older DC and U-7144T/U8144T series predate the current model generation. The E- prefix on the ACTT and ACX denotes fully electric chassis of the newer generation.

The register lists 21 variants here, all with six cylinders and displacements from 6,300 to 14,200 cm³, kerb weights from 5,100 to 18,574 kg and gross weights from 8,879 to 24,350 kg. Lengths range from 5,100 to 7,700 mm, widths from 2,220 to 2,800 mm; diesel, natural gas and electric drive are all recorded.
Autocar occupies a niche in North America alongside larger brands such as Mack and Peterbilt by building chassis consistently for municipal and construction work rather than long-haul transport, with a low cab entry and good all-round visibility for daily stop-and-go duty.
When buying used, refuse chassis call for checks on the body interface and hydraulics, natural-gas models need an up-to-date inspection of the gas system, and electric chassis need the battery and charging electronics checked; engine and axle parts mostly run through Cummins and Allison partners, since Autocar buys these components in.
