Tankers of this size run in drawbar combinations behind tractor units with their own tank body and double the transport volume for fuel, chemicals, milk or flour compared with a solo vehicle; multi-compartment versions allow several products to be carried at once. Depending on the cargo, the tanks are built from stainless steel for chemicals and foodstuffs or from aluminium for fuels, which noticeably affects the unladen weight.
On used examples, the corrosion condition of the tank shell inside and out, the tightness of manhole covers and discharge fittings, the calibration check on versions subject to verification, and the frame, axles and brakes all count; parts and inspections mostly run through specialist tanker workshops.
