The FORTERRA 105 is a tractor from Zetor belonging to the Forterra series. It entered the model line that has been produced since the end of 1998 and includes various power levels. The engine has four cylinders with a displacement of 4 156 cm³ and delivers 101 hp (74.3 kW) at a nominal speed of 2 200 rpm. Maximum torque is 440 Nm. Its length is 4 067 mm, width 1 890 mm, height 2 725 mm and wheelbase 2 328 mm. The curb weight is 4 660 kg, the fuel tank holds 180 l and the gearbox provides 24 forward and 18 reverse gears, allowing a top speed of 40 km/h.

With a power output of 74.3 kW the FORTERRA 105 ranks 14th of 21 models in the series. The next smaller model is the FORTERRA 95 with 70.4 kW, while the next larger model is the 10641 with 77.2 kW, the power being practically equal. The series power range spans from 59.6 kW to 108 kW. Its weight of 4 660 kg ranks 9th of 21 models; the next lighter model weighs 4 562 kg and the next heavier 4 785 kg, with weight practically equal. The weight range of the series is from 4 075 kg to 6 350 kg.

The FORTERRA 105 sits in the middle power class of the Forterra lineup. It provides more power than the 95 model but remains below the stronger variants such as the 10641. Its weight also falls between the lighter and heavier models, making it suitable for typical field and municipal tasks without the complexity of the top‑end models.

Zetor Forterra: the powerful four-cylinder since 1998, from the 95 to the FORTERRA 140 HSX, 59.6 to 108 kW, four- and six-cylinder engines with water cooling

Forterra, a name combining "for" and "terra" (terrain), first left the Brno plant in late 1998, built on the Unified Row III platform whose first prototypes date back to 1974. In 2012 the Forterra HSX arrived with an electro-hydraulic power shuttle, followed in 2014 by the Forterra HD rated up to 110 kW.

The register lists 19 live models in this series, from the 95 up to the FORTERRA 140 HSX, with outputs from 59.6 to 108 kW, weights from 4,075 to 6,350 kg, and displacements between 4,150 and 6,001 cm3 across four- and six-cylinder engines.

Zetor positioned the Forterra as a rugged mid-range tractor for field, forestry and municipal work, technically simpler than its flagship models but noticeably stronger than the Proxima line. By its 20th anniversary, Zetor counted around 21,500 Forterra tractors sold across 55 countries.

When buying used, the build year matters: early Forterra models from the late 1990s differ substantially from the later HSX and HD versions with their more modern hydraulics and power shuttle transmission.

Zetor, as a Czech tractor maker, remains an independent, active company today, which eases spares supply for the Forterra line through the regular dealer network, unlike many of the long-discontinued brands otherwise gathered on pages like this one. In the power class of 59.6 to 108 kW, the ISO 730 three-point linkage is mostly built to Category II, with the PTO usually offering both standard speeds, 540 and 1,000 rpm.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
