The Renault Magnum was built from 1990 to 2013, a run of 23 years. Its cab, designed by Marcello Gandini, was the first modern truck cab with a completely flat floor, and cab and engine compartment were mechanically separate. In 1991 the Magnum was named International Truck of the Year. The Renault Trucks T high succeeded it.
The engines are based on a 13-litre inline six with outputs between 324 kW (440 PS) and 382 kW (520 PS) and torque of 2,200 to 2,550 Nm. The register lists power steps from 385 to 560 PS and the origin of the units: AE, Mack and Volvo. For gearboxes it names manual transmissions and the automated Optidriver and Optidriver+. This version is 7,205 mm long and 2,483 mm wide. A spread of more than 150 PS within one series shows that the Magnum served from heavy distribution work to long haul.
Renault Magnum – the flat-floor cab of the top class: DXI in-line six-cylinders of 11 to 13 litres, 324 to 460 kW, electric since the E-Tech
The Magnum was Renault Trucks' flagship model from 1990 to 2013 (Renault Véhicules Industriels until 2002) and was built at Bourg-en-Bresse in southern France. Its defining feature was the fully flat cab floor, giving the driver full standing height – an unusual concept in the long-haul segment at the time. Type designations such as 440, 460, 480, 500 and 520 give roughly the engine power in horsepower, DXI denotes Renault's own in-line six-cylinder diesel engines, which replaced the older MIDR units in the 1990s. With the Magnum E-Tech, Renault Trucks now also offers a battery-electric version of the same cab shape. Renault Trucks has belonged to the Volvo Group since 2001.

The register lists here 39 versions with 324 to 460 kW from six- and eight-cylinders of roughly 11,000 to 12,800 cm³, gross weights from 18,000 to 27,000 kg and lengths up to 11,090 mm.
The Magnum was Renault's answer to the top models of Volvo, Scania and Mercedes-Benz in long-haul transport and remains valued by hauliers today for its cab space, even though the range has since been replaced by the Renault T.
On used examples, the condition of the DXI engine and injection, the condition of clutch and automated gearbox, cab mounting and sealing, and the braking system and axles all count; parts run through the Renault Trucks network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
