The A series targeted smaller farms needing a simple, compact tractor. For a used model, the exact production year matters most, as the A series developed considerably over more than two decades, from pre-war designs to post-war models such as the AB.
The fuel types noted in the register, diesel as well as wood and peat, point to the war and immediate post-war period, when diesel shortages in Germany forced tractors to run on wood-gas generators or peat as an emergency measure; such conversions needed an additional gas generator and considerably more upkeep than plain diesel operation. For the PTO, these early small tractors followed the simple 540 rpm standard. After the war, fuel supply normalised, and later A-series models ran on diesel alone once again.
