The Safetech ST60X kit from Opale Aero System (France) is a non-pyrotechnic parachute kit with a 1.8 m² canopy for multicopters up to 5 kg. The canopy is pulled out by servo extraction; release is by a PPM or PWM signal from a separate remote control or a stand-alone module.
The sink rate depends strongly on mass: 2.9 m/s at 1.5 kg up to 5.3 m/s at 4.9 kg; the rated value of 5.3 m/s applies to the highest mass. The tube measures 150 x 60 mm and the kit weighs 220 g. On a 1.5 kg aircraft, 220 g are a substantial part of the take-off weight, at 5 kg a small one. In the upper part of the range of use the aircraft descends at more than 5 m/s.
The manufacturer advertises the kit for the French DGAC scenario S3; that is a national reference and not evidence to an EASA standard. For flights over people or in certain scenarios of the Specific category, evidence to ASTM F3322 or EASA MoC Light-UAS.2511 and 2512 may be required. Aircraft up to 5 kg reach beyond the 4 kg limit of EU class C2; the added weight counts towards take-off weight.
Because release runs through a separate remote control or a stand-alone module, their power supply and range belong in the ground check before use. Wear points are the servo and the tube mechanism. After a deployment, canopy and lines are checked for tears, chafing and moisture and repacked as the manufacturer specifies. Without pyrotechnics the requirements for pyrotechnic releases fall away; the manufacturer's instructions apply.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
