The Safetech ST100 kit with the 7 m² Crossfly canopy from Opale Aero System (France) is a non-pyrotechnic extraction kit for multicopters up to about 9 kg. By servo extraction the canopy is pulled out of the tube; opening takes 0.3 to 0.8 s. The kit is listed for the DJI S800 and S900, two six-rotor platforms.
The sink rate is 3.1 m/s at 7 kg, 3.3 m/s at 8 kg and 3.5 m/s at 9 kg; the rated value of 3.5 m/s applies to the highest mass. The opening takes place in 0.3 to 0.8 s over a distance of 4 to 10 m, which is an opening distance and not a minimum deployment altitude. The tube measures 160 x 100 mm and the kit weighs 700 g.
The manufacturer's table runs to 9 kg; in relation to the French authority DGAC the manufacturer gives a limit of 8 kg. Anyone relying on the DGAC figure stays at 8 kg. For flights over people or in certain scenarios of the Specific category, evidence to ASTM F3322 or EASA MoC Light-UAS.2511 and 2512 may be required. The 700 g count towards take-off weight.
Without pyrotechnics, the transport and storage requirements for pyrotechnic releases fall away; the manufacturer's instructions still apply. Wear points are the servo that pulls out the canopy and the tube mechanism: function test before each block of flights. After a deployment, canopy and lines are checked for tears, chafing and moisture and repacked as the manufacturer specifies. Selection follows the mass of the aircraft with payload, because the sink rate rises with every kilogram.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
