The MAD Components 5020 IPE V3.0 KV205 is a waterproof eVTOL lift motor for 12S with up to 8 kg of maximum thrust. MAD Components is a Chinese maker of multicopter drives. The stator is class 5020, that is 50 mm in diameter and 20 mm in height; the case measures 56 x 41.3 mm and the mass is 290 g.
At 205 KV the motor turns roughly 9,100 rpm unloaded on 12S (44.4 V nominal). The maximum thrust of 8,000 g is about 28 times the motor mass. For continuous operation the maker gives 2 to 3.4 kg of thrust, that is a quarter to a little over two fifths of the peak. That shows the role of a lift motor: it must cope with brief, high loads at take-off and landing, and in cruise it stands still. Mounting is by hole patterns of 12 and 15 mm diameter with M3 threads.
Design includes the question of how much energy the battery holds. On 12S the 160 Wh limit for passenger aircraft lies at about 3.6 Ah, above that, batteries travel only as dangerous-goods freight. For the rules the weight of the whole drone counts: up to 25 kg it stays in the open category, above that the specific category applies. Motor, speed controller (ESC) and battery must carry 12S, and power figures are compared only on the same time basis (3 to 180 s).
The waterproof version is meant for outdoor use, and durability here depends on seals and bearings. After flights in rain or fog the bell should turn evenly by hand, without roughness; corrosion on the shaft is a warning sign. Repeated take-offs at full load stress the winding insulation through temperature swings. The mounting screws should be secured, because vibration loosens them.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
