The MAD Components 5008 PRO IPE is an eVTOL motor with automatic propeller centring (feathering) for VTOL aircraft that switch between hover and cruise. MAD Components is a Chinese maker of multicopter drives. The stator is class 5008, that is 50 mm in diameter and 8 mm in height; the case measures 56 x 30.4 mm and the mass is 176 g.
The series comes in 170, 240, 300, 340 and 400 KV for 4 to 6S. The thrust figures hold for the whole series: up to 4,800 g of peak thrust and 1.2 to 2.1 kg of continuous thrust. KV and cell count belong together, since their product sets the no-load speed: 340 KV on 6S (22.2 V nominal) gives roughly 7,500 rpm, the same as 170 KV on 12S. Anyone flying 4S chooses a correspondingly higher KV than on 6S.
On VTOL aircraft the lift motors stand still in cruise, and the propeller must then create little drag. The centring serves that purpose: it brings the folding propeller into a defined resting position after switch-off. Legally, VTOL drones are treated like other unmanned aircraft: the EU class depends on the take-off mass of the whole drone, it stays in the open category up to 25 kg, and flights beyond visual line of sight belong in the specific category. Motor, speed controller (ESC) and battery must carry the same cell count.
Lift motors work in short, hard bursts: take-off and landing at high load, then a long pause. The winding heats quickly and cools in cruise; repeated temperature swings stress the varnish. In the centring mechanism cleanliness counts: dust or sand in the joint of the folding propeller prevents it from aligning cleanly. Bearings, shaft wobble and the mechanism should also be checked after every transport.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
