The Holybro H-RTK Unicore UM982 Ultralight is the lightweight rover version of the UM982 receiver in a single housing for medium-class multicopters. Compared with the full module one antenna connector is omitted; connection is through UART with an 8-pin GH1.25 connector.

The Unicore UM982 chip handles GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS in the same bands as the full module. The accuracy figure of 0.8 cm belongs to the chip, not to Holybro: Unicore states RTK horizontally 0.8 cm + 1 ppm as RMS, a spread measure covering roughly two thirds of the measurements. That is not to be equated with the CEP figures of other modules. Output runs at 20 Hz, and the compass is an IST8310. The module weighs 25.4 g, about 15 g less than the two-antenna version at 40.3 g.

With a single antenna connector the heading from two antennas is gone; orientation comes from the compass in the module or from the autopilot. The module is a classic RTK rover: to reach the centimetre class it needs corrections from your own base, a radio link or an NTRIP service. Low weight counts where take-off mass is tightly budgeted: EU class C0 is below 250 g, C1 below 900 g; remote identification and geo-awareness, both resting on the GNSS position, are required by the regulation from C1.

For selection, the antenna counts because it is not in the unit: it must cover the bands used, have a clear view and keep distance from the video transmitter and power leads. The compass is calibrated after installation. A single housing has little reserve against vibration, so it should be mounted softly and securely. Firmware belongs to upkeep.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
