The Herewin 3C 14S1P 51.8V 40000mAh Anode-Free UAV Battery is an anode-free lithium-metal battery from Herewin (Shenzhen Jiaying Shidai Technology) for heavy multicopters. Fourteen cells in series give a nominal 51.8 V at 40 Ah; the pack measures 196 × 79 × 196 mm.

51.8 V and 40 Ah give 2,072 Wh; at 4,470 g that is about 464 Wh/kg when calculated. The title quotes 495 Wh/kg; the pack value is the one that counts for comparison. The 3C discharge corresponds to 120 A continuous or about 6.2 kW. The maximum charge current, by contrast, is only 0.2C, which is 8 A: charging an empty pack therefore takes five hours by calculation.

2,072 Wh is far above 160 Wh. Under the IATA passenger leaflet (February 2019 edition) the pack travels only as dangerous-goods cargo, not as a spare in hand baggage; UN 38.3 testing is the precondition. For a lithium-metal pack the classification in the maker's transport document is decisive. At 4.47 kg the pack alone exceeds the 4 kg that an entire aircraft of EU class C2 may weigh.

The charge current of at most 8 A shapes the use: anyone who wants to take off again quickly after landing needs several packs in rotation, because recharging must not be hurried. The charger must handle 14S and the maker's specifications. The continuous current of 120 A must cover the hover current with reserve, and connectors and leads must carry it. Wear shows as capacity loss, growing voltage sag and deformed cells; the fourteen cell voltages are checked at the 15-pin balance lead.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
