The DJI O4 Air Unit is a light digital FPV transmitter unit with a camera module for small FPV drones. It works with the DJI Goggles 3, the N3, the Goggles 2 and the Integra and is fitted, among others, in the iFlight Defender 20 Lite. At only 8.2 g it is among the systems that drones with a tight weight budget can carry.
Recording goes up to 4K at 60 fps, while the live view stays at 1080p and 100 fps; for the pilot the live view is what matters. Latency is about 20 ms with the Goggles 3 in race mode at 1080p and 100 fps, about 24 ms with the N3 and under 35 ms with the Goggles 2 or the Integra. The range of 10 km is an FCC figure; under CE and SRRC it is 6 km, in each case with Goggles 3 or N3. Bitrate is up to 100 Mbit/s. It transmits on 5.1 and 5.8 GHz; which bands are available depends on the region. The transmit power of 1,000 mW is the converted FCC ceiling of under 30 dBm EIRP for 5.8 GHz, not a measurement. The unit weighs 8.2 g with the camera, 9.2 g with the lens holder and 5.1 g without the camera.
In the EU the CE limit for 5.8 GHz is under 14 dBm, about 25 mW, and for 5.1 GHz under 23 dBm, about 200 mW. The 1,000 mW of the FCC figure cannot be used in the EU, and the 6 km under CE is the planning figure. Equipment may be operated in the EU only in the approved frequency ranges and power levels.
When choosing, goggles and transmitter unit must match: the latency values depend on the counterpart: the Goggles 3 reach the lowest latency, the Goggles 2 the highest. Despite its low mass the air unit warms up when stationary, so it should not sit on the ground for long. The antennas break in crashes and need replacing; the firmware on both sides has to match.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
