The PRS-M4S from AVSS (Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions, Canada) is a lightweight parachute recovery system for the DJI Matrice 4 Enterprise and Matrice 4 Thermal, that is, for multicopters of the medium class. According to the manufacturer it deploys automatically in less than 0.5 s; manual release through the DJI Payload SDK (PSDK) is also possible.
The system weighs 149 g with a tolerance of ±5 g and brings the aircraft down at 3.8 m/s. With so little dead weight the payload stays almost untouched; the sink rate does rise, however, when the aircraft flies with a heavy additional payload. Deployment is autonomous: the system detects a fall or abnormal attitude itself and needs no pilot command, which matters for flights over people because a release independent of the pilot is asked for there.
As evidence the manufacturer lists ASTM F3322-24a and EASA MoC Light-UAS.2512. Evidence under MoC 2511 was announced for the fourth quarter of 2025; what counts is the issued evidence, not the announcement. The 149 g count towards take-off weight and can change the classification of an aircraft close to a class limit, for example C1 below 900 g or C2 below 4 kg.
For transport and storage the manufacturer's instructions apply, because pyrotechnic or gas-driven releases can fall under their own rules. After a deployment, canopy, lines and release unit are inspected and packed or replaced as the manufacturer specifies. The kit is made for the Matrice 4E and 4T; on other aircraft the manufacturer's data and standard evidence do not carry over automatically.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
