Advanced Protection Systems (APS) MSI & APS Terrahawk Paladin

The Terrahawk Paladin is a counter-drone platform offered jointly by MSI Defence Systems and Advanced Protection Systems (APS, Poland). It combines FIELDctrl Advance radars from APS with a remotely operated 30 mm MK44 Bushmaster cannon from MSI and a jammer from APS. The system is a military weapon system and is listed as stationary or deployable; the manufacturer names the military as its field of use.

The specifications name three levels: radar for detection, a cannon as the kinetic effector and radio jamming as the non-kinetic effector. Up to four platforms can be coupled into one module, which can extend the protected area. Here too, manufacturer ranges assume favourable conditions; the actual protection follows from radar coverage, target tracking and the reach of the gun.

As a military weapon system the platform is subject to export control. According to the manufacturer, exports require a licence. Jammers may be operated only by authorities and armed forces in Germany (§ 91 TKG) and in Poland (Art. 42 of the Electronic Communications Law, Dz.U. 2024 item 1221). Active intervention in a drone's flight, that is destroying, disabling or taking over, is permitted to designated state bodies in Poland under Art. 156ze of the Aviation Law (Dz.U. 2025 item 179). In Germany hazard prevention is in principle a matter for the federal and state police; the armed forces support under § 15a LuftSiG through administrative assistance.

In a set of radar, cannon and jammer, the interplay counts: alignment and calibration of the radars, maintenance and inspection of the weapon station to the manufacturer's rules, software upkeep and clear release rules between sensor and effector. Fixed operation adds foundation, power supply and lightning protection.
