The Aerobits idMEbatt is a battery-powered Remote ID transmitter with a multi-GNSS receiver, a barometer and a 200 mAh LiPo cell for light aircraft. Unlike the built-in modules of the idME range it needs no connection to the flight controller: it determines position and altitude itself and runs from its own battery. That lets it be fitted to model aeroplanes, helicopters and drones that have no autopilot port.
The radio side is Bluetooth Low Energy at +18 dBm plus Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz at +20 dBm. +20 dBm equals 100 mW and +18 dBm about 63 mW. The manufacturer gives the battery life as at least 2 hours. For a Remote ID module what matters is that this time covers several flights, because transmission has to run for the whole flight. The battery alone weighs 5 g at 25 x 20 x 3 mm; on light drones the transmitter together with its battery counts towards take-off weight.
For use in the EU a module must transmit to ASD-STAN EN 4709-002 and carry an EU declaration of conformity; ASTM F3411-19 is the US standard. CE marking is still pending. The module has to accept the operator registration number and send serial number, time, position, altitude, course, speed and the pilot position or take-off point.
When choosing, the LiPo is what matters most: cells of this size age through deep discharge and through storage fully charged. Anyone who leaves the device switched on or stores the battery empty shortens its life faster than charge cycles do. After long storage, check the run time before each use, before the transmitter has to supply the identification in flight.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
