With the INTRAC 2005, Deutz offers a model from the INTRAC series. Production: 1974–1975. The engine delivers 80 hp (58.6 kW), has 5 cylinders, with a displacement of 4,710 cm³. Rated speed is 2,500 rpm. The machine is 4,400 mm long, 2,200 mm wide and 2,525 mm high. The unladen weight is 3,900 kg. The wheelbase measures 2,500 mm. Ground clearance is 500 mm. Top speed is 40 km/h. Transmission: Hydromotor. The engine is air-cooled. Tyres: front 12.5-20 MPT, rear 12.5-20 MPT. The fuel is diesel. The bore measures 100 mm. The stroke is 120 mm. Construction: frame construction. Injection pressure is 175 bar. The linkage is category II. Around 5 units were built. The INTRAC series covers 5 models. Rated output within it ranges from 51 to 140 hp; the INTRAC 2005 sits in the lower part of that range with 80 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the INTRAC 2003 below it with 60 hp and the INTRAC 2006 above it with 116 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 2,680 to 4,980 kg; here the INTRAC 2005 sits in the middle of that range with 3,900 kg. 189 Deutz models across 25 series are on record.

Deutz INTRAC 2002 to 2007 – the toolcarrier with a central driving position: symmetrical axle load for front and rear implements at once, three to six cylinders, 37 to 103 kW, 2.68 to 4.98 t

The INTRAC is Deutz's own answer to the self-propelled toolcarrier: unlike a normal tractor, the engine sits centrally in the frame and the driver in a raised, central cab, so the axle load is almost evenly distributed and the machine can carry equally heavy implements front and rear – for instance a sprayer boom at the front and a cultivator at the back in one pass, as required in viticulture, hop-growing and vegetable production, where high ground clearance and low soil pressure matter. The type logic of the 2000 range (INTRAC 2002 to 2007) orders the models in ascending power class, from the small three-cylinders to the large six-cylinders for professional special-crop use.

The register lists 5 versions with 37.3 to 102.5 kW from engines of 2,826 to 6,128 cm³ at 2,300 to 2,500 rpm and operating weights from 2,680 to 4,980 kg; lengths range from 3,500 to 4,900 mm, widths from 1,890 to 2,200 mm.

The INTRAC remained a niche alongside Deutz's, and later Deutz-Fahr's, classic tractor line-up, but found loyal buyers in special-crop farming and municipal use with front and rear attachments, before the range ended in the 1990s.

On used machines, the condition of the central cab mounting, leak-free hydraulics for front and rear implements, rust on the frame, the condition of clutch and gearbox and parts supply, markedly tighter today than for the ordinary tractor line-up owing to the small production numbers, are what count.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
