DAF was founded in 1928 in Eindhoven as Van Doorne's Aanhangwagen Fabriek and has built its own trucks since 1949; the company has belonged to PACCAR since 1996. In the brand's chassis logic FA denotes a basic 4x2 chassis, and N adds a fixed, non-steered trailing axle to make a 6x2 three-axle chassis.
