DAF FAN – chassis with a fixed trailing axle: CF, XF and LF base as 6x2 three-axle trucks, six-cylinders, 266 to 375 kW, up to 31,500 kg gross weight
DAF was founded in 1928 in Eindhoven as Van Doorne's Aanhangwagen Fabriek and has built its own trucks since 1949; the company has belonged to PACCAR since 1996. In the brand's chassis logic FA denotes a basic 4x2 chassis, and N adds a fixed, non-steered trailing axle to make a 6x2 three-axle chassis. The collective page spans the classic CF75 and CF85 chassis, the heavy XF105 range, the lighter LF55 and the CF Electric, DAF's battery-electric distribution chassis.

The register lists here 32 versions with 266 to 375 kW from six-cylinders throughout of 6,693 to 12,902 cm³ displacement, unladen weights from 10,255 to 25,610 kg, gross weights from 21,000 to 31,500 kg, lengths from 7,570 to 12,000 mm and widths from 2,400 to 2,600 mm.
The fixed trailing axle is the simpler and lighter option compared with the liftable FAS version and is found above all on chassis that run loaded almost all the time – tippers, swap-body and distribution bodies in construction and delivery traffic, where the extra weight on the third axle spreads the load across more axles and reduces the load per axle.
On a used example, bearing play and linkage of the trailing axle, corrosion on the frame and axle brackets, the condition of the PACCAR MX engine (turbocharger, EGR, injection) and the clutch and gearbox (ZF AS Tronic) count; on Electric chassis, battery condition and charging history. Parts run through the dense DAF dealer network.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
