The S416 is powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine of 8,400 cm³ displacement, delivering 309 kW (420 hp) at 1,950 rpm. At a permissible gross weight of 16,000 kg, an unladen weight of 12,000 kg and a top speed of 50 km/h, the tractor is one of the most powerful standard tractors in its class, with a payload reserve of about 4,000 kg over its unladen weight.

Tractors of this power class pull the widest and heaviest cultivation equipment in modern large-scale arable farming and drive the most demanding stationary and mobile implements through the 540 or 1,000 rpm power take-off. The 50 km/h top speed allows brisk road travel between widely scattered fields.

On a used S416, it is especially worth checking the exhaust after-treatment system and the complex engine electronics, since such a powerful six-cylinder engine in this class carries highly developed emissions control systems. Tyres and axle bearings should also be closely assessed given the tractor's high overall weight, along with the cab mounts for wear after intensive use in the field over many seasons.
