The register lists here 34 versions with 22 to 130 kW; the recorded engines are diesel units, noted in the register among other things as six-cylinder, under the Universal brand name and with the engine type D-131.

For decades Universal tractors shaped agriculture in Romania and large parts of Eastern Europe, regarded as simple, rugged workhorses for hard everyday use on smaller and mid-sized farms; production declined in the 1990s and 2000s after the end of the planned economy.

When buying one of these simply built diesel tractors used, the injection pump, clutch and, on the DT four-wheel-drive models, the condition of the front axle matter most. Parts are still comparatively easy to find in Romania and south-eastern Europe, but only through specialists in Western Europe.
