Terex Terex Rock Truck

The Terex name arose in 1968 when General Motors had to rename its Euclid construction equipment division after an antitrust case – Terex, from terra and rex, lord of the earth. The haul trucks in the register tell three chapters of that story: the 33 series (33-05B to 33-19) is the GM-Terex generation of the 1970s and 1980s with Detroit Diesel two-stroke engines of the 71, 92 and 149 series, whose number after the hyphen roughly gave the payload class in tens of short tons. The TR series (TR35 to TR100) came from the Scottish Motherwell plant, which Terex ran until 2014, with the payload in short tons in the name – the TR100 carries about 91 t. The MT series (MT3300 to MT5500) comes from Unit Rig of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the pioneer of the diesel-electric truck, which Terex took over in 1988; the number gives the payload in hundreds of pounds, so the MT5500 carries 360 short tons, and AC denotes the alternating-current drive. In 2010 Terex sold the mining business to Bucyrus, which went to Caterpillar in 2011 – the MT5500 lives on as the Cat 795F AC.
