The Typ 13 is powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder flat-twin engine of 1,057 cm³, with power sent to the rear wheels through a manual four-speed gearbox – a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout (FR configuration) typical of light vehicles of the period. Depending on the body, the Typ 13 weighed between 800 and 1,200 kg, on a wheelbase of around 2.65 m.
With an air-cooled two-cylinder engine and a weight under 1.2 tonnes, the Typ 13 was among the smallest and lightest vehicles of its era built in Czechoslovakia, serving, depending on the body, as a light delivery van or as the base for smaller passenger-carrying bodies. Air cooling freed the engine from needing coolant and antifreeze, which made it practical even at low temperatures.
For a pre-war vehicle this rare, acquisition is limited to the classic-vehicle market. Worth checking are the condition of the air-cooled two-cylinder engine at the cylinders and cooling fins, the operation of the four-speed gearbox, the frame for corrosion, and the availability of spare parts, which, with only 762 units built, can be expected solely through Czech classic-vehicle specialists and the successor maker, Tatra Trucks.
