The Kompakt series emerged after Steyr merged with Case IH and New Holland in 1996 to form today's CNH group; the 360, 370 and 375 Kompakt types and the later Kompakt 4075 ecotech reflect the ongoing development of this smaller Steyr line over several years. The three-digit types order the power class in ascending order, while the 4075 ecotech, with its four-digit designation and ecotech suffix, denotes a later, emissions-optimised generation. Within the CNH group, Steyr shares platforms and components with Case IH and New Holland while remaining a distinctly positioned brand.

The register lists four versions here with 43.4 to 55.9 kW from three- and four-cylinder diesel engines with 2,931 to 3,400 cm³ displacement. Rated speed is 2,300 rpm, unladen weight ranges from 2,850 to 3,900 kg with lengths from 3,440 to 4,241 mm, widths from 1,923 to 2,300 mm and heights from 2,410 to 2,494 mm; lift capacity at the linkage reaches up to 4,400 kg. Some of the engines are approved to run on diesel or rapeseed oil methyl ester.
As compact all-round tractors, the series targeted smaller farms, municipalities and contractors needing manoeuvrability and a low centre of gravity for yard and grassland work, competing there with comparable compact classes from New Holland and Case IH.
When buying used, check the condition of the front-loader mounting and hydraulic couplings, the tightness of the lift cylinders, wear on the clutch and shuttle gearbox, and on the biodiesel-capable engines the condition of the injection system and fuel filters. Parts run through the CNH dealer network for Steyr, Case IH and New Holland.
