The 9000 M range represents Steyr's mid four-cylinder class after joining the Case/CNH group, with the 9080 M and 9090 M as two closely spaced power steps; the last two digits roughly denote the horsepower. The engine comes from Steyr itself, which continues to build its own diesel units within the group, while the chassis and cab share technical solutions with Case IH.

The register lists 2 variants at 60 to 66 kW (82 to 89 hp) from a four-cylinder diesel of 4,397 cc, kerb weights of 3,750 to 3,950 kg, lengths of 3,980 to 4,215 mm, a width of 2,170 mm, a height of 2,690 mm and a rated 2,300 rpm; one model is also approved for rapeseed diesel.
In this mid power class the 9000 M range served classic mixed arable and grassland farms in Austria and southern Germany, competing directly with comparable models from Fendt Farmer, Deutz-Fahr Agrotron and John Deere's 6000 series.
