The 80 series was Someca's last major range marketed as an independent brand before the company was fully absorbed into the Fiatagri division in 1983. It too was based on Fiat designs, finished in Saint-Ouen for the French market and sold under the Someca name.

The type designations match the 580-980 models sold in parallel under the Fiat badge — a fundamentally sturdy mid-range line with a growing engine offer, up to the five-cylinder fitted in the 880-5.

When this series ran out in 1983, independent marketing under the Someca name ended too; model development passed to Fiatagri from then on.

With operating weights of 2.3 to 3.8 tonnes, the 80 series spans the transition from Category I to Category II of the ISO 730 three-point linkage; lighter models such as the 580 and 680 are usually still Category I, the heavier 880 and 980 already Category II. When buying used, it is therefore worth matching the lower links and hooks actually fitted to the implements on hand before investing in new adapters.
