Across the factory data sheets published for individual DC09 variants, output spans roughly from around 200 kW up to more than 330 kW, covering everything from compact industrial drives to generating sets rated near 300 kVA. The sources reviewed give no reliable production period or a specific predecessor engine.

Typical applications include stationary and mobile industrial machinery, auxiliary and propulsion duty on work and fishing vessels, and standby or continuous-duty generator sets; variants held in the SpecCodex records include DC09 080A, 083A, 085A, 087A and 092A, each representing a different power and application tuning.

For used units, the maintenance record for oil and filter change intervals is the key thing to check, along with the condition of the centrifugal oil cleaner and oil cooler that Scania fits as standard; no further documented, type-specific weak points are reported in the sources reviewed.
