Truck cranes in this class lift loads of 20 to 75 tonnes on building sites, at installation work and in civil engineering, and travel to the job on public roads on their own chassis. From the 2000s Sany's STC range competed against established suppliers such as Liebherr and Tadano and the Chinese rivals XCMG and Zoomlion, building the brand's share of the mid-capacity segment.

On a used truck crane, the condition of the telescopic boom and its sliding pads, the hoist winch and wire ropes, the hydraulic cylinders of boom and outriggers, the chassis and axles for road use, and the inspection history of the crane superstructure, which in most countries must be periodically examined by a qualified inspector, all count.
