The wide span from 2 to 39 tonnes gross weight alongside a narrow length span of roughly 11 to 12 m shows that this collective page covers similarly long but differently loaded bodies, from lighter trailers to heavy semi-trailers.

Depending on the class, the braking technology also changes: in O2 a mechanical overrun brake with a ball coupling suffices, in O3 and O4 an air brake system is required, and correspondingly the necessary licence rises from B or BE through C1E to CE. The heaviest types with a fifth-wheel coupling and kingpin count as true semi-trailers, the lighter ones are towed on a ring coupling or towing eye.

On a used purchase, the condition of chassis and axles, the braking system and coupling or fifth-wheel coupling, corrosion on load-bearing parts and tyre wear all count; spare parts run through the open trailer-parts trade.
