From the mid-1990s, the Ares series covered Renault's more powerful tractors; the Ares 600 tier occupied the upper power segment within it, until the company was gradually sold to Claas between 2003 and 2008 and dissolved in 2008.

As one of the last large-tractor series developed purely under the Renault badge, the Ares 600 marks an endpoint before full integration into the Claas group.

When buying a used Ares 600, clutch and gearbox condition depending on the RX or RZ specification, the tightness of the lift hydraulics, and the six-cylinder's turbocharger and injection system all matter; rust on cab and mudguards after years of field use is common too. Since the Renault Agriculture brand was dissolved in 2008, parts for the Ares series now run through the Claas parts network. PTO and lift correspond in this power class to ISO 730 Category II to III, at 540 or 1,000 rpm.
